Publishing Ethics
Publication ethics
Each manuscript is assessed in a publication procedure including an assessment of:
1. the disciplinary appropriateness of the article by a member of the editorial board who is the editor of the issue,
2. an anonymous peer review by two experts from a list of reviewers (the journal uses double-anonymized peer review to ensure an unbiased, fair and unbiased review). In exceptional cases, the editors may approach a reviewer from outside the list.
Papers are judged solely on their professional, scientific merit. The journal editors, the reaction board and the issue editors make every effort to maintain the impartiality and anonymity of the review process.
The following principles of ethical practice in the preparation and publication of a peer-reviewed TVV journal are based on COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) documents, available at: https://publicationethics.org/core-practices. In particular, it takes into account:
- Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Editors (https://publicationethics.org/core-practices)
- Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers (https://publicationethics.org/files/Code%20of%20conduct%20for%20publishers%20FINAL_1_0.pdf)
- COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers (https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines/cope-ethical-guidelines-peer-reviewers)
Editors, reviewers, and authors are expected to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the original documents listed above before beginning their editorial, review, or authoring activities.
When publishing articles in TVV, all those involved are required to adhere to the following rules and responsibilities:
Policy for Authors:
- Each author's manuscript is subject to peer review.
- Each author is obliged to submit to this procedure, to take into account the comments of the reviewers and to make modifications to his/her manuscript based on these comments.
- The author may address specific suggestions to any member of the Editorial Board on disputed issues or may withdraw the manuscript from the review process at his/her own request and decide not to publish the manuscript in the journal.
- The author of the manuscript is an expert who has made a significant contribution to the results, analyses and research presented.
- The manuscript may not be made available by the author for publication to other editors, national or foreign, whether in Czech or foreign language.
- In preparing the manuscript, the author must follow the guidelines for formal editing (see Guidelines for Authors), adhere to ethical standards and the established citation format.
- By submitting the manuscript for review, the author automatically declares that all the data he/she has provided are true and completely original. He/she further confirms the originality of the text and confirms that the text is not plagiarized. He also confirms that he is the copyright holder and that he has not granted an exclusive licence to a third party.
- The author is responsible for ensuring that his/her manuscript does not contain information that is fictitious, false or has been previously published.
- If others have contributed to the article, for example in the context of research, the author must acknowledge their contribution in the article. All experimental studies must comply with basic ethical guidelines.
- The author must acknowledge all financial sources in connection with the submission of the manuscript for review and publication and declare any potential conflicts of interest, if any.
Guidelines for Editors:
- Editors have full responsibility for meeting deadlines, the content of the journal, and the quality of the articles published.
- Editors are required to maintain full anonymity of both reviewers and authors throughout the review process.
- Editors are careful to apply a non-discriminatory and completely objective approach to the manuscripts under review, i.e. they are obliged to avoid conflicts of interest. In cases of disputes, the Editor-in-Chief, who also acts as the Editor-in-Chief of the editors who have a conflict of interest, will decide.
- The main criterion for the selection of manuscripts is their professional and scientific level and their relevance to the field. The criterion is also the consistency of the topic of the paper with the professional focus of the journal. The Editorial Board relies on the opinions of anonymous reviewers in making its decisions.
- The editors make the final decision to reject or accept a manuscript for publication.
- The editors decide on the inclusion of accepted manuscripts in individual issues of the journal.
Policy for reviewers:
- The review process is part of the peer-review process of an article. The aim of the peer review process is to assess the professional and scientific quality of the article and to suggest to the author possible modifications that will lead to an increase in the professional quality of the article.
- Reviewers assist editors in making decisions about the publication of manuscripts and help authors to improve the quality of manuscripts.
- Reviewers are selected anonymously from a list of reviewers based on their expertise in relation to the topic of the article.
- Reviewers are required to declare any conflict of interest without undue delay and to maintain objectivity.
- Reviewers must not misuse for the benefit of others or for their own benefit the findings presented in the manuscript under review.
- Reviewers shall evaluate manuscripts objectively and without personal criticism, express their position clearly and support their recommendations with relevant arguments.
- The reviewers should identify any major misconduct of the author with respect to publication and research ethics in their assessment and report these circumstances to the editor and the editor of the issue.
- Reviewers are obliged to refuse to provide a review on the grounds of a conflict of professional interest.
Principles for the Editorial Board:
- The Editorial Board is appointed and dismissed by the Dean of the Faculty of Education of Palacký University on the basis of a proposal by the Editor-in-Chief.
- The Editorial Board continuously strives to improve the quality of the journal through its activities. It applies principles such as freedom of expression and pluralism of opinions.
- The Editorial Board, together with the Editor-in-Chief, ensures compliance with ethical principles. The views and opinions of the Editorial Board may differ from those of the reviewers.
- The Editorial Board establishes and discusses guidelines for editorial work (guidelines for authors, guidelines for the review process and reviewers, etc.) and ensures that the principles set out herein are followed.
- The Editor-in-Chief, in collaboration with the Editorial Board, handles any appeals by authors against review comments and other complaints.
