KLEPANCOVÁ Michaela
TVV 2015, 8(1):217-224
The concept of limit and especially its formal definition even in its simplest form - as a limit of a sequence - belongs in terms of learning process to difficult and problematic ones. Most students even after completion of course of Mathematical Analysis will not be able to completely understand the term of limit and their imagination of this concept does not correspond with the formal definition of limit. We can encounter various self-constructed definitions of students which may be caused due to an incomplete understanding or forgetting of learned definition of the limit of sequence, but in the end they does not meet the formal definition content....

The paper deals with the reason why researchers and scientists should shift emphasis in the statistical treatment of their research as much as possible from NHST (Null Hypothesis Significance Testing) to estimation based on ESaCI (Effect Sizes and Confidence Intervals). A basic problem of NHST is that it encourages dichotomous reasoning, which refers to the reject-or-do not-reject mindset that is widespread within the NHST theories. We would like to explain why a shift to estimation thinking is likely to be valuable, and provide evidence that confidence ESaCI can be more informative than NHST; ESaCI provide more complete information. On the other hand...
