BEE-BOT AND ALGORITHMIC THINKING AT THE FIRST STAGE OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Algorithmic thinking has been on the top of problems to be solved regarding the strategy of digital education by the year 2020. Looking for a solution – an algorithm is not only applied in programming, but in ordinary life as well, while looking for the best possible option. The aim of the research was to find out the factors which influence algorithmic thinking in children. Using the robotic toys, we surveyed how successful are the children in fulfilling the given task.  For empirical measurements there were used two groups of children from one elementary school (1st and 2nd class). The total sample of 31 children was obtained based on a random selection. The success rate was higher for women. The reason of better results was not due to prior knowledge, which we had asked about as well, but the consistency of program input and its continuous control during the programming. The sample of children served as a pilot measurement to verify the feasibility and it requires some adjustments. Nevertheless, the basic data was obtained. More classes will be tested for further measurement to confirm our hypotheses – focused on influencing factors.
