CONTEMPORARY TRENDS IN SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL TERMINOLOGY

The study characterizes current worldwide trends in scientific and technical terminology (terminology in the narrower sense). From the existing trends, the study identifies those that are most relevant to techno- and info-educators and will allow them to assess whether or not the term in question is consistent with these trends. These are: uncontrolled increase in the number of new terms, transfer of terms from other languages, internationalization of terminology, increase in the number of homonymous terms, increase in the number of synonymous terms, increase in the number of hybrid terms, increase in the number of multicomponent, increase in the number of nonverbal equivalents of terms and increase in colloquial equivalents of terms.
